Frequently Asked Questions
Music Player
Why Can't I hear any music?
There are a number of reasons why you may not hear any sound from the music player. They are as follows
- Your speakers are not on or plugged in
- The player is currently stopped, set to pause, muted or the sound is turned down
- You manually set yourself to have the highspeed version, but your current speed can't handle it
Please ensure that your speakers are plugged, turned on, not mute and your system volume is at an audible level. The easiest way to ensure your system volume is not mute or at an audible level is to play a sound on your computer. If you can not hear that sound either, you will need to check your audio settings in your operating system's control panel.
If the speakers are on and you still do not hear any sound, check that the player is in fact playing. If the player is currently playing, the second button from the left will be a pause button (two thin, vertical, adjacent lines). If the player is not currently playing, the second button from the left will be a play button (a triangle pointing right).
If the player is indeed playing and you still do not hear any sound, check to ensure the current track is not loading. If the current track is loading the text at the bottom left of the player will say “Loading:”. If the track is not loading and not stopped the bottom left text will say “You Are Listening to:”.
If the player is not loading and is playing, but you still do not hear music or an interview, ensure that the player's sound is not turned all the way down. If the volume is currently above 0 you will see one or more vertical bars incrementing in size from left to right between the next track button (the fourth button from the left, a triangle pointing to the right followed by a thin vertical bar) and the mute button (the speaker left of the CD cover picture). If the volume is currently above 0, but not turned all the way up, click and hold on one of the bars and drag to your right until no more bars appear. Your volume is now at 100, don't worry, the volume can only get as loud as the volume your speakers are currently at.
If you have set the volume to 100 and you still do not hear any music or an interview ensure that the player is not muted. If the player is not mute, the speaker left of the CD cover picture will have two vertical curved lines after it. If it is mute the lines will not be there. If the player is mute, click it and the bars will appear.
If you manually set yourself up to have the highspeed version with the link in 'I have a fast connection, but I still get the low speed player' and you still cant hear music after trying all the previous suggestions, then your current speed is too low for the player to work properly, click here to set it back to low speed.
Please keep in mind that the player remembers your settings every time you change them. This means that if you pause, mute or turn down the sound on your player and then go to a new page on the site or turn off your computer, the player will remember that and will keep its state the next time you see it. Also keep in mind that if you have the low speed version of the player, it does not play a song automatically, you must press play to hear the song. To learn more about why you have this version and why it works this way, click here.
What is the picture in the middle of the player?
The picture in the middle of the player is the cover art for the CD you are currently listening to. If you would like to see a larger picture of the CD or would like to learn more about it, click here. If you are currently listening to an interview Roman Hurko has given, the picture you see will be his.
Are these the only tracks on the CD?
The tracks you can listen to through the player represent only a small sampling of tracks from each CD. To learn about all the songs from all the CDs, click here.
How can I purchase the song / CD I am listening to?
To purchase the entire CD you are listening to, simply click either the cover art of the album in the middle of the player, or click the download button. You will be taken to the details page for that particular CD; from there you can choose to purchase the CD for download or shipment. To purchase a single song, click the right most button that says 'Download Song'. Again you will be taken to the details page from which you can download that or any of the songs on the CD. To learn more about shopping at Roman Hurko.com see How do I purchase a song, CD or sheet music?
Why is my player still paused / stopped / muted since I was last here?
For your convenience, every time you change the player's state, it remembers the changes you've made. In this way, you can continue to listen to the same song while traveling through the site, as well as between visits. Also if you choose to mute, pause, stop or turn down the volume on the player, it will remember and stay that way between visits. If you do want the player to continue playing next time you come back simply turn your volume up, turn off your mute and ensure your player is playing before you click any links on the site or close your browser. Of course you'll only have to do this once because the player remembers!
Please keep in mind that the slow speed version is stopped when loaded by default. To learn why click here.
Why doesn't the music play as soon as the player loads?
If the music is not playing automatically when the player loads, your player is either set to pause or you have the low speed version. To find out if and why you have the low speed version, see 'How do I know which version of the player I have?'.
I have a fast connection, but I still get the low speed player
If you are sure you want the high speed version of the player, click here. Your browser must be set to allow cookies. You may want to read 'Why doesn't the music play as soon as the player loads?' and 'What is the low speed version and why do I have it?'. When this page appears again, you will have the high speed version, if you do not hear any music, read 'Why can't I hear any music?'. If you've set the player to highspeed and now its not working, click here to set it back to low speed.
What is the low speed version and why do I have it?
To ensure that you enjoy the best experience listening to Roman Hurko's music, the player displayed for you is the one best suited to your connection speed. If you have a slow connection, the player asks that you want to download the music before it plays. There are two reasons for this:
- We do not want to constantly slow down your browsing experience on the site
- We want to ensure that you hear the song in the best way possible
Because you have a slow connection, if we streamed the music to you, your speed would be considerably slower, and thus everything else on Roman Hurko.com as well as other websites would load noticeably slower. The low speed version of the player loads the entire song for you at once, so your speed will only be slowed down for a short time and so you can then continue to enjoy Roman Hurko.com at the best quality your internet speed will allow!
In the high speed version of the player the music is streamed to you in real time. However because you have a low speed connection the streaming would be interrupted at times or too slow for the player to play the music in real time and thus the music would stop and start at random intervals.
If you know you have a fast connection such as DSL or Cable and are still getting the low speed version, see 'I have a fast connection, but I still get the low speed player'.
How do I know which version of the player I have?
To tell which version of the player you have, look at the text in the bottom left corner of the player when it loads. If you have the load speed version the text will say 'Click Play To Hear:', if you have the high speed version, the text will say 'You are listening to:'. To find out why you have the version you have, see 'What is the low speed version and why do I have it?'.

How do I purchase a song, CD or sheet music?
The first step in purchasing a song or CD is choosing the ones you want. You can do this by proceeding to the page for the CD you are interested in. Once there you will see a list of tracks broken into 5 columns. The first is the number of the track as it appears on the CD. The second column is the name of each track, the white text is its English name and the red text is its Ukrainian name. The next column is the track's length in minutes and seconds. The fourth column contains links for certain songs that say 'Listen', clicking one of those links will play a sample of that particular track in the player at the bottom of the page. The last column contains a button that says 'Add To Cart', if a track or CD is already in your shopping cart, that button will be gray, otherwise it will be gold.
To purchase a single track, click the 'Add To Cart' button beside it. If you are done shopping, you can proceed to your shopping cart.
