21st Anniversary of The Chornobyl Disaster-
Roman Hurko's Requiem was Performed by The Evergreen Singers

2007 marked the 21st anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. The Evergreen Singers, under the direction of Marla Beth Elliott, commemorated this anniversary with a performance of Roman Hurko's "Requiem for the Victims of Chornobyl" at 4pm on March 18th, 2007 at The Evergreen State College Recital Hall, in Olympia, Washington.

The Requiem was composed in 2001 for the 15th anniversary, and was given it's premiere in Kyiv, Ukraine by the Frescoes of Kyiv Chamber Choir. It was performed last year in both Toronto and Barcelona to mark the 20th anniversary. The Toronto concert at Roy Thompson Hall featured the combined Elmer Iseler Singers, The Orpheus Choir, The Amadeus Choir and the Vesnivka Women's Choir, and was broadcast internationally on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio Network.
